Day 114

Day 113

Day 112

Day 111

Day 110

I don't really remember the week. I only know that I was tired and lazy. I'm still trying to figure out how I'm going to finish all the week I have to do before the end of the semester. On April 22, Earth Day, my boyfriend and I went to see "Earth." I read that every ticket they sell, they'll plant a tree. I'm down for tree planting. This week in my Contemporary Family Issues class we learned about female circumcision and honor killing. You know, I'm very tolerant of different cultures and I find myself compromising my beliefs because that's what people want you to do. I honestly don't know why people would want to put their beliefs aside for the sake of a culture they do not participate. I'm really struggling with this right now. When do you put your beliefs aside? And when do you just see everyone as human beings? For example, I'm watching "Slumdog Millionaire" tonight and I'm remembering how everyone loved this movie. I find myself disturbed by it. This kind of stuff REALLY happens and here we are, watching this movie, almost GLORIFYING it. Giving people awards, writing stupid songs and choregraphing dances at the end of it, it's kind of sick. I mean, don't get me wrong, it's a good movie by it's own merits, but I just don't like how people were excited about it instead of disturbed. I can't assume all ends well for this couple. In this circumstance those gang members would seek out Latika and kill her in an honor killing way. In fact, they would have killed her the first time she ran away. That's the reality. And now we hear about that little girl being sold for $300,000! Well, I have news for the rest of the world, she's not being "sold," he father is looking for the highest dowry he can get for her. He's finding her a husband, and believe me, they marry their girls off as early as age 8. That's the reality and that is why I refuse to add "Slumdog Millionaire" to my list of favorite movies. Its not just entertainment to me. Anyway on a lighter note, I hope to have a fun and productive weekend. Although Sunday will suck, I can't believe out of the almost 50 people in PHI U only 6 volunteered for Sunday. It's very disappointing and I feel like I am the only one that cares. Sad.
